This session focuses on the learning environment and the role of the teacher in a Project Construct classroom.
Focus will be on how to create and sustain a developmentally appropriate learning environment for children ages 3-5. You will learn practical strategies for establishing a rich learning environment, and teaching practices that promote children’s development and learning.
Module 1
Young Children’s Social Emotional Learning
1 Day Training; 5 hours total
Social/Emotional learning is one of the most important aspects of a Project Construct classroom. This session focuses on teaching practices that promote children’s social and emotional development, creative ideas for helping children become independent learners, and effective ways to have intentional play in your classroom.
Module 2
Early Literacy and the Expressive Arts
1 Day Training; five hours total
Focuses on the language and literacy development of children ages 3-5 as well as other forms of representational knowledge. You will learn teaching practices that support children’s development of oral language, vocabulary, phonological awareness, reading, and writing skills; along with effective strategies for using classroom materials to foster emerging literacy.
Module 3
Young Children’s Mathematical and Scientific Thinking
1 Day training; 5 hours total
Focuses on ways in which children ages 3-5 develop mathematical and scientific thinking by exploring the physical world. It also examines practices that support their cognitive development. You will learn teaching practices that support children’s cognitive development, ways to use assessment to plan cognitive learning experiences, and ways to involve families in young children’s construction of mathematical and scientific concepts.
